ECC 100 Principles of Early Childhood Education
3 Credits. 3 Lecture Hours. 0 Lab Hour.

A course on basic concepts of early childhood care and education. Topics include: physical, mental, social, emotional, and cognitive growth and development from birth to age eight, and developmentally appropriate practices. Students must complete requirements for work in child care settings including references, FBI and BCI background checks, and a physical exam.

ECC 105 Role of the Teacher Assistant
3 Credits. 3 Lecture Hours. 0 Lab Hour.

A course on teacher assistant responsibilities in early child care settings, and associated regulations. Students must complete requirements for work in child care settings including references, FBI and BCI background checks, and a physical exam.

ECC 110 Creative Activities for Teacher Assistants
5 Credits. 4 Lecture Hours. 7 Lab Hours.

A course on the teacher assistant role in carrying out activities of the early childhood classroom. Topics include: art, music, math, science, early literacy, and play. Students spend seven hours per week in an early childhood care setting.

ECC 115 Safe and Healthy Environments for Children
3 Credits. 3 Lecture Hours. 0 Lab Hour.

A course on concepts and techniques for providing safe and healthy child care. Topics include: childhood communicable diseases, USDA food requirements from birth to age eight, and requirements for safe environments for children.

ECC 125 Foundations of Early Childhood Care and Education
3 Credits. 3 Lecture Hours. 0 Lab Hour.

An introduction to the field and the degree program. Topics include: early childhood care in the community, and care environments. Students must complete requirements for work in child care settings including references, FBI and BCI background checks, and a physical exam.

ECC 130 Child Development Associate Refresher
3 Credits. 3 Lecture Hours. 0 Lab Hour.

A course for students with a current Child Development Associate credential not from an accredited college or university. Students must demonstrate competency in developmentally appropriate practice, learning content standards, and infant/toddler guidelines in early childhood educational settings. Minimum grade of B is required to pass the course.
Prerequisites: A current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential

ECC 131 Early Childhood Skills 1
4 Credits. 3 Lecture Hours. 2 Lab Hours.

A course for students seeking the Child Development Associate credential from the Council for Professional Recognition. Topics include: assessment and observation, USDA food requirements from birth to age eight, and home providers' licensing requirements.

ECC 132 Early Childhood Skills 2

A continuation of ECC 131. Topics include: pre-school, parents and family, inclusion, creative activities, and developing a resource portfolio.

ECC 135 Working with School Age Children

A course on principles for teaching children ages five through eight. Topics include: effective environments, curriculum, classroom management, and developmentally appropriate practice. Students must complete requirements for work in child care settings including references, FBI and BCI background checks, and a physical exam.

ECC 140 Creative Recreational Activities for School Age Children

A course on concepts and techniques for teaching children ages five through eight in before/after school programs, recreation centers, and summer programs. Students spend seven hours per week in a school age education/care setting.

ECC 145 Diverse Populations and Families

A course on concepts and techniques for teaching diverse populations in early childhood settings. Topics include: developing positive relationships in diverse family units, inclusion, multiculturalism, and adapting learning environments to include gifted children and children with disabilities.
