PBT 100 Phlebotomy Principles and Techniques
3 Credits. 2 Lecture Hours. 3 Lab Hours.

A 10-week course on the theory and practice of phlebotomy. Topics include: healthcare systems and terminology, safety and infection control, applied anatomy and physiology for blood collection, proper specimen collection techniques and quality assurance, specimen ordering and processing, and professionalism. Students must successfully complete PBT 100 before progressing into the Phlebotomy Practicum, PBT 180.
Prerequisites: MCH 101 or MCH 104

PBT 180 Phlebotomy Practicum
2 Credits. 1 Lecture Hour. 8 Lab Hours.

A 5-week clinical practicum course that enables students to collect phlebotomy specimens from patients in a healthcare setting. Students complete a minimum of 100 hours of applied experiences and 100 unaided collections, and participate in a seminar to discuss their experiences and prepare for the ASCP Certification Examination. Students must successfully complete PBT 100 before progressing into PBT 180.
